Had a fantastic stay despite it being very cold. Tested the owner, Jonathon's skills as a host to the full by turning up three months earlier than my booking. In return got a hot water bottle the first night, a hot water bottle and blanket the second, kendal mint cake and detailed advice about bus services and places to see including the wonderful Rydal Hall - which he even gave me a lift too. A truly brilliant host. And despite the freezing weather and a cold wind I used the shower and can vouch for it being really brilliant. I will definitely go back. It is very accessible for someone using train as you can walk from Stavely with a back pack and yes, the one day bus ticket for £11.50 is a great idea with the bus stop right near the site

What an Easter! Wonderful weather, wonderful campsite and wonderful host. What more can I say?

What can I say,but amazing! We arrived on Friday afternoon to glorious sunshine (Jonathon) Who immdiately became our friend. We had a beautiful day mixed with alot of rain,no really alot of rain! However I wouldn't change a thing xxx

Although described as basic, the facilities are actually excellent

The location and site is fantastic. The owner Jonathon was extraordinarily friendly and helpful, advising us on very accessible and interesting walks as well as lots of other tips which contributed to a wonderful weekend stay. We completed the walk on the Dales Way which took in the breweries and really enjoyed chatting with Jonathon about it afterwards. We'll definitely go back as soon as we can.

Pictureque site in a great location

The location was great! The views were lovely from the site and it was only short drive to Windermere. Jonathon was a great host, very welcoming and very knowledgeable about the area. The site is pretty steep so we were really grateful for Jonathon to drive us and our stuff up to our pitch! (I got to ride in the back of the wagon, which was so fun!!) We took our kayak aswell and Jonathon advised us of a great spot to launch it from. Will definitely be back!

Ings Kippers is a unique camp site

Great pitches and scenery with an interesting mix of facilities, from wild toilets and an outdoor shower. However, the best thing about this campsite is the wonderful owner Jonathan. He is warm and hospitable and always makes time for his guests. He offers great local advice and even made the guests crumpets for breakfast during our stay! Would highly recommend staying at this campsite.

We arrived very early this Saturday morning and we were ...

We arrived very early this Saturday morning and we were greeted by the best host ever. Jonathon gave us a very warm welcome (I'm sure he's the reason behind this glorious weather we've had recently) and invited us to join him for an early morning, locally brewed beverage. The tent pitches are on a steep hill side but this did not prevent Jonathon from offering to carry our belongings up to the top, via his trusty off road pickup truck. We were given a map of the area with a route that took us on an 8 mile adventure, which included some breathtaking scenery, a plunge in the river and some incredible beer gardens. If you want a quiet dip in Lake Windermere, Jonathon will advise you of a quiet secluded spot. You'll have to visit his spectacular camp site first so he can reveal the location. We shall be retuning very soon with a bottle or two of our locally brewed tipple for this wonderful human being.

Excellent site, excellent host. Clean and tidy

Jonathan went out his way to help us. Gave us so much information about the lakes and where to visit. Couldn't of been more helpful. Tremendous bloke.

Amazing place.

Amazing place. The campsite is lovely but most importantly, the owner is the nicest, most helpful person on earth! Would recommend 10000 times.
- Catlyne H.

Amazing friendly proprietor.

Amazing friendly proprietor. The most helpful ever! Clean, environmentally friendly site with compost toilets and outdoor shower. There are also indoor facilities. Amazing views from each pitch. Away from the bustle of the lakes but near enough to walk/cycle in to them.

Excellent place to stay. Jonathan was brilliant.

Excellent place to stay. Jonathan was brilliant. From helping us with our tent to our pitch and advising us on buses and local pubs ECT. Nothing was to much trouble. The views from our tent were beautiful. We bought some logs and sat round the fire with wine and blankets. Bliss. Also spent the day in Windermere wich is very close. Will defiantly stay again but hopefully for more than one night next time!! Thank you!

Jonathan was really friendly and helpful,

Jonathan was really friendly and helpful, provided plenty of information about the area and offered advice when it came for things to do. The campsite was a great location not too far outside of windermere with fantastic views.
- Daniel

John is a brillant host! He makes you fill very welcome! He sorted us out with a discount for when we hired the kayak. Told us all about the local walks. Rented us a few pegs! I could not have been happier with my stay.

This site is just what we wanted, adultts only, not noisy

This nice small campsite is amazing !! Everything I wanted from a fire pit to your own BBQ. It’s so quiet and peaceful and the noise from the rd isn’t as bad as others say it didn’t bother us st all. Johnathan is great, so helpfull and knowledgable and always there to help you with anything. Definitely going back to share a beer with you Johnathan x

ALl great

The helpfulness of Johnathon and the friendly atmosphere of the whole campsite. Johnathon went above and beyond to make our stay welcome. He helped with bags, gave information on routes and where to visit and was just generally a nice person. He was a gentleman and a gentle man. Thankyou Johnathon.
Amazing views from pitch (everyone had one as the pitches were stepped)
Two lovely, friendly goats in a nearby pen added to the experience.
The facilities are basic but this added to our fun experience - plus for £17 it was a real bargain.
It's also very close to Ambleside and Kendal (a few miles)
- Craig C

Great site, well thought out with an excellent host

Great little campsite, set out in a fresh and innovative way. The pitches were clean and flat each with there own firepit, some different to others which added a bit of character to each pitch. The road is busy and can offer a little noise which could be offputting to some, however this is far outweighed by the fact the A591 is basically the aorta of the Lake District offering easy access to a myriad of potential walking locations.
The host Jonathan was great! Friendly, informative and helpful in regards to matters both on and off the campsite, from offering help with taking my gear to the pitch, information on the locale, to directing me to a local WMC of which he is a member and allowing me to drop his name so they would sign me in to watch the footy!
- Martin H.

Excellent site clean facilities. Great view from site

Jonathan great host and lovely little campsite. Also does B and B on site.
- Thomas G.

If you want to camp near Windermere you should definitely stay here!

Jonathan the host was brilliant! Friendly, helpful, informative! Would definitely go back. The site was clean, pretty and in an idea location.
- Rob W.

The photos online don't do this campsite justice

John is an amazing host with a vast amount of knowledge of the area, he had suggested some great places for us to visit. He helped us move our equipment to our pitch and again when we were packing up. It's a beautiful site and has some georgous views also it is only a ten minute drive if you want to get to Windermere where there are many activities available in and around the area. Even if you don't have a car there are transport links right beside the location.
- Phillip O.

Excelent small , clean , well organised and extreamly friendly site

Small site which was very well organised. loved the very clean European style toilet and hot water outdoor shower ....we were lucky with the weather...If we had wanted we could have had use of fire pit and rubbish disposal was well organised.
John the host was extremely friendly and helpful with a very generous nature and lots of useful advise re the area. very enjoyable stay and I hope to return.

What attracted me to Ings Kippers was the positive reviews

What attracted me to Ings Kippers was the positive reviews I read here about the campsite as well as the host Jonathan. From the moment I booked the camping spot till we left the camp, it has been a wonderful experience! Jonathan was an amazing host and a local connection to the area.
What makes this campsite so special is the warm personality of Jonathan and all the tips he gave us during our trip. We were blessed with a wonderful weather and it made out experience much much better. Having a fire, clean toilets and convenient access to public transportation made it very easy for us to enjoy our trip.
Thank you so much Jonathan! We really appreciate all you have done for us (the drive, tips and the blanket).
- Ezgi C.

What an amazing weekend at Ings Kippers! Jonathan greeted us

What an amazing weekend at Ings Kippers! Jonathan greeted us with chocolate covered Kendal mint cake and offered to take our luggage, and us, to the pitch at the top of the hill in his buggy! Fantastic views and an excellent host! We even tried the outdoor shower which was really nice. Handy location for lovely walks and several breweries in walking distance. Cannot recommend enough. Jonathan was an absolute joy and couldn't do enough, not to mention the lovely Daphne! Will definitely be back! Couldn't have picked a better weekend
- Debbie

Beautiful site, short walk from the pub, excellent host

The Campsite itself is set on a beautiful hillside with charming views of the surrounding fells. Handily close to 3 Breweries, one of which is a short 5 minute walk away. The pitches where clean and flat, the ground steady and easy to peg into. It was lovwly to be able to have a fire, with the option of using a BBQ as well. The toilets are all quirky and well maintained, especially the European style one in the shower block, which was a welcome new experience.
The host is an absolute joy and was very understanding when we left an evening early, a very pleasant gentleman who recommended all sorts of pubs and things to do. Ings Kippers has definitely become my favourite campsite.
- Charlotte

Fantastic site with an excellent host

Fantastic site with an excellent host. On arrival Jonathan was happy to help us set up our pitch and pass on his extensive knowledge of things to do and see in the area. The pitches were well maintained with ample facilities. Would thoroughly recommend.
- Paul

Excellent site, friendly atmosphere and stunning views!

My partner and I loved the site, which is surrounded by beautiful scenery including some friendly goats! We loved the outdoor solar shower in particular!
Jonathan made us feel extremely welcome and we are already planning our next visit which we hope will be a longer one!
- Lindsay W.

Great site and views with the best hospitality

The panoramic views from the camp site were amazing and Jonathan was brilliant. He couldn't have done anymore for us. Had great knowledge on things to do all around and always wanted to help. Great location with things to do with a bus service running outside the site going to pretty much anywhere you want to go
We will be going back next year when hopefully the weather is better.
- Craig and Nicola

Lovely little rustic site with very friendly staff

Stunning scenery to unzip your door to!
- Alice

Friendly and picturesque

This is a lovely campsite set on a hill overlooking the village of Ings. It's a small site with some great pitches - ours came complete with bench and brazier and meant we had a great evening cooking sausages after a pint in the local pub. Jonathan is an interesting, friendly, and unbelievably helpful host who also seems to know all the cheapest pints within a 50 mile radius! We would recommend this place to anyone and hope we can come again soon. Thanks for a lovely stay Jonathan.
- Nikki and Jack

Super little site with a great host

The location, the host, the pub over the road.
- Chris

Nice little camping area, with everything needed for a pleasant stay

Panoramic (almost) view from top of hill. All necessary amenities available (toilets, showers, washing up area). Host very pleasant, helpful and welcoming. Although near a busy road, locality to main towns outweighed murmer of traffic.
- Deborah

Pitches are well sheltered in little dug out spots.

Great view and super friendly host, we had a lovely stay!
- Beejal P

Great little campsite with a very friendly host.

Great little campsite with a very friendly host. Nice and quiet even in mid summer
- Liam H.

Nice private pitches up a short hill. Great view

Nice private pitches up a short hill. Great view from the outside toilet (if you want to use it). Jonathan is a fantastic host with great knowledge of the local area, giving us great advice on walks/days out as well as the local pubs. Short cycle to Windermere or a great drive over the Kirkstone pass to Ullswater, this is a great location for active people who want to get out and about. Great location, even better host 👍
- Ian W.

Lovely site, pitches are level, offered some degree of privacy.

Great atmosphere in a beautiful setting. Camp is excellent and very well looked after. Shower and facilities are clean. The owner made us feel very welcome. The friendliest and most knowledgeable host you'll find. We will definitely be back.

Everything is great
- Galin G.

Excellent back to basics site with stunning views

The location was great with stunning views, walkable to Windermere/ Bowness, the host Jonathan was brilliant! We loved the fire pit.
- Lisa E.

The site is perfect, the facilities are clean, John is a perfect host

Absolutely gorgeous scenary from the plot of land behind Johns house, the view is so amazing and can see the hills go on for miles and miles.
It is also opposite a cafe, shop and pub so if you don't want to venture out you are able to cross the road and still enjoy the day.

John is and amazing host, really nice man who goes up and beyond for his guests, the equipment he provides for the campers are two fire pits, BBQ set up, two drinking water stations, two toilets, and also a hot shower outside all of which is free, the only thing which costs is the indoor shower which is £1 for 15minutes which is more than enough time.

The campsite is a 10minute drive from Windermere where you can walk along the lake and other activities which John will suggest and give leaflets/information for.
Overall this place is amazing for the price, and would reccomend to anyone to give this place a try and meet John, you will not be disappointed.
- Adrian M.

Fantastic little site with helpful staff and good facilities

The excellent service, the views, the location, the facilities, level pitches, tips given to us by the host on the best places to visit nearby, great value for money
- Rose M

Amazing, quiet campsite with beautiful views

This was a fantastic campsite with everything you need nearby, as well as stunning views of the lakes straight out of your tent. The water from the tap was delicious, the outdoor shower was so warm and comforting after a long day of walking, and the continental toilet was actually quite fun to use!!! Our host, Johnathon was spectacular, giving endless advice and recommendations for us during our stay! He charged our phones and offered us the tumble dryer when it poured with rain - he couldn't have done any more and made our trip all the better!! We would definitely stay here again, my boyfriend and I have made memories for life on this little campsite. I almost hope no one else finds it so we can keep coming back! Thank you so much for all that you do Johnathon. Thanks and hope to see you again,
- Harriet and Stuart x

Small, quiet, back to basics site

Quirky features of the site like the spiral staircase and the out door shower. Host is very helpful and you can tell he enjoys meeting people. Enjoyed listening to his knowledge/ stories over a bottle of beer.
Enjoyed the 'back to basics' site and glad that it is restricted to few tents. Can't wait to stay again.
- George G.

Jonathan is a really friendly, chatty host

Jonathan is a really friendly, chatty host with lots of useful information about the local area. He recommended some lovely pubs and he was always around to answer our questions. Thank you!
- Kate M

A superb, welcoming, clean and well-organised site

The site owner, John, is extremely welcoming. The pitches are elevated, fairly level and with great views. It is also nice that vehicles are left down in the car park. Recycling and rubbish facilities are well organised. The toilet block is spotless and I liked the idea of the outdoor shower (although I didn't actually use it!!). A real ale pub/microbrewery is just a few minutes walk away.
- Kevin W

Great pitches, brilliant European toilet facility. Very clean

Views were spectacular. Can't wait to visit again.
- Ruth

Great campsite with good views, convenient location and amazing host!

Everything. Jonathan recommended loads of different activities, walks and sights to see, along with places to eat and drink, making for a packed out few days. He was an extremely courteous and friendly host, letting us charge phones, offering to make hot drinks and making sure that we were warm and dry enough when it rained. The campsite is very easy to get to by car, and Windermere and Ambleside are just 10-15 mins away by car, making the location very convenient. The Bowness ferry is also close by, meaning that you can explore both sides of Lake Windermere easily, with Jonathan suggesting some lovely walks on the other side of the lake.

Once you arrive at the site, you must take your gear up a flight of stairs and a very short track up the hill to get to the pitches, but again Jonathan offered to drive all of our kit up in his tractor so this is no problem. The view from the top is lovely, and with two benches and a table there are plenty of places to sit and take it all in. There are plenty of taps and a BBQ at the top as well. The outdoor shower is great fun, and the toilet was always clean and well-kept. We would happily return here and hope to do so next time we are in the area! Thank you Jonathan!
- Saseesha

Simple site with a great host

This is a simple site bursting with character. What really made the stay was the host who couldn't do enough for us. I hope to come back again and stay a little longer next time so I can enjoy the local brewery. Highly recommended!

Friendly staff, clean and very quiet

Jonathan from start to finish was a perfect host, from his local knowledge of the best pubs and places nearby too his suggestions for scenic motorbike routes he really made my stay very enjoyable. Nothing was too much trouble for him and was very friendly every time I saw him , the camp site was quiet and perfect for me too just chill out drinking a beer looking at the stunning scenery after a day out exploring.
- Ian

Definitely be back. Best weekend away ever

Jonathan was an excellent host. Very accommodating and had extensive knowledge of the local area and things to do. He charged our phones and cooled our beer. The location was perfect. The scenery was beautiful no matter the weather. Fortunately we had sunshine and Jonathan gave us the hammock to use which I would recommend. The facilities are all clean and accessible and some are quirky and fun. Best weekend away ever! See you soon, Jonathan.
- Laura and Mike.

Everything, Jonathan made our stay simply perfect.

Everything, Jonathan made our stay simply perfect. He went out of his way to be truly hospitable. The camp site was quiet and allowed us time to take in the stunning views. The outdoor heated shower was a particular favourite (there is an indoor heated shower too) - facilities are great. A cafe across the road and shop provide excellent fuel when needing last minute supplies. There's also a couple of pubs in walking distance.

John also has a fire pit (he provides wood too) and a barbecue if needed.
There are also two friendly goats who live in the field next door (Peanut & Pip)) who supplied some entertainment - they had such awesome personalities.
What made us sad was that we had to leave! We picked a great weekend - weather was perfect - and we could see pretty far!

Easy drive to Windermere, Kendal and access from the M6.

We hired some bikes and a kayak while we were there and also drove to the bottom of Stickle Tarn to climb.

Amazing hosting by Jonathan, couldn't have been any more helpful

Best host I've had at a campsite

Great host, fantastic views from the hill where we pitched our tent
- Andy C.

Excellent site with everything you could need and an amazing host

The location is perfect, secluded enough to get away from it all but close enough to local amenities to make your stay comfortable and convenient.
John, the owner, couldn't have been more welcoming, friendly and helpful, he gave us a lift up to and from the pitch with our gear, recommended loads of activities and places to go and was just an all round great host.
If the weather is as nice as it was during our stay, there is honestly very few places that could match it.
- Tom L.

The Site is on a hill but all the pitches have been levelled

What a gem of a Site located in a part of the Lakes we are really fond of. The Site had everything we required and more besides. Our host Jonathan went above and beyond to make sure we made the most of our stay, which indeed we did. Can't thank Jonathan enough for sharing some of the delights we had not found before. Wonderful, memorable, weekend
- Graham

Immaculate facilities, staff amazing, overall a must try

Jonathan (campsite owner) was very welcoming and extremely helpful when our tent (including its contents!) were soaked during a storm.. he really couldn't do enough for us.
All facilities provided were immaculate.
Outdoor shower and plunge pool are a must try.
Good location - easily drivable to windermere in 5-10 minutes or cycle in 30.
Very good pub opposite campsite serving local craft beers.
